What is a Deployed KPI?
A Deployed KPI (Number) is a KPI created by one team and distributed (or deployed) to multiple teams in the organisation. Each receiving team can then review the KPI, set its own target, and if needed, deploy it further down the structure.
Think of it as a multi-level cascade - perfect for organisations with layered reporting or multiple locations.
Example:
Head Office creates a KPI → Deploys it to all regional management teams
Regional management teams set targets and → Deploy the KPI update responsibility to site or shift teams
If Delegation is a single transfer, Deployment is a multi-layer chain of accountability.
Why Use Deployed KPIs?
Deployed KPIs are ideal when multiple teams need to track the same metric, but at their own level and with their own targets.
Common use cases:
Group-level KPIs that must be tracked across departments, sites, or regions
Consistent operational KPIs (e.g., safety performance, production efficiency, customer quality metrics)
KPIs that need local ownership but global visibility
Deployment helps you:
Maintain consistent measurement across the business
Save time by creating KPIs once instead of repeatedly
Provide flexibility for each level to set realistic targets
Improve alignment and reporting between leadership and operations
Who Can Deploy a KPI?
Only users with deployment permissions can deploy a KPI. These permissions are managed under:
Setup → Teams → Edit Team → Deployment Permissions
If you don’t see the deployment option:
Ensure you're logged into the correct team
Check that deployment permissions are enabled for that team
How to Deploy a KPI
To deploy a KPI, create or open an existing KPI (Number). When adding the KPI details:
Select Deployed when editing the Update Method from the the drop-down menu.
Calculation type: choose sum or average from the drop-down menu. This setting effects how the KPI result will aggregate up the chain of deployment.
Teams: Choose the teams you want to deploy to and select the owner of the Number for each team.
Once saved, the receiving teams will now see the deployed KPI and can:
Set their own target and update method
(If permitted) deploy it further down the structure
Well done - you’re now ready to create scalable, structured KPIs that support cross-team alignment and accountability in Workfacta.
