Require Action for Off-Target Results

Ensure corrective action happens immediately when a KPI is off-target.

Updated over a week ago

In this article, you will learn about the 'Require Action' feature for KPI's in Workfacta.

Note: The Require Action feature for Numbers (KPI's) is available on Business, Enterprise and Enterprise Plus plans. Click to upgrade your plan.

What is 'Require Action'?

This feature ensures that when a KPI (Number) result falls below target, the updater must create an Action before submitting their update. Instead of allowing poor results to sit unaddressed, Workfacta prompts immediate follow-through - helping teams move from reporting problems to solving them.

Max AI can also assist in creating the Action, making the process fast and friction-free.

Why to 'Require Action' on KPI's?

In many organisations, underperforming KPIs go unaddressed until the next meeting, delaying corrective action and slowing execution momentum.

The 'Require Action' feature solves this by:

  • Triggering immediate accountability

  • Ensuring off-track performance is acted on, not ignored

  • Reducing time wasted waiting for escalation

  • Preventing recurring poor results from becoming normal

  • Supporting leaders in maintaining a proactive, improvement-based culture

You can also choose to enforce action only after a KPI has been off-target for a specific number of consecutive updates - helping avoid unnecessary action on one-off fluctuations.

How to create a KPI that 'Requires Action'

  1. Create or open an existing KPI (Number).

  2. Scroll to the Require Action setting which is visible only if you have selected Require Note.

  3. Select When off-target from the drop-down menu.

  4. Save your changes.

Once enabled, when an update is submitted and the KPI is off-target, Workfacta will require the updater to create (or confirm) an Action. Max AI automatically generates the Action to make the process faster and easier.

Great job - you’re now using 'Require Note' on KPI's to bridge the gap between reporting and action, strengthening accountability and accelerating improvement.
